Three Mules Welding Supply is the largest independent welding supply company in Southern Maryland, with two locations to serve our region. We have created a "Welder's Hardware Store" concept by expanding our product line to include not only a complete line of welding gases, equipment and supplies, but also plumbing, automotive, construction, electrical and hardware items, which includes the area's largest and most varied stock of abrasives. Located on Route 5, the Mechanicsville store is about half-way between Waldorf and Lexington Park. Our Lexington Park store is on Great Mills road between Lexington Park and Great Mills. |

THREE MULES WELDING SUPPLY is a family owned and operated welder's hardware store, location in Mechanicsville, Maryland which has SPECIALIZED in customer service since 1989. The company was started by a local, Southern Maryland businessman James "Doc" Oliver, Jr., with the help of a long time friend, Richard Stone, and son-in-law, Robert Willingham, who is involved in a successful business of his own.
The name "THREE MULES" came from a comment made by Doc, about an Amish farmer plowing his fields with a Three Mule team. Since that time the company has grown in a rapid fashion. Doc has turned his thirty years of business experience, as a distributor for Rock Creek, and a salesman for Ayescue, a distributor for Royal Crown Cola, into a very successful welding supply business. Doc has had the help of his daughter Connie Willingham, who has handled the Accounts Payable from the start. In the fall of 1991 Doc hired a welding supply salesman, John Griffin, with thirty-four years experience in the industry. In 1992, James "Witty" Wittkamp, another long time friend, joined the staff. In 1995, THREE MULES purchased their Lexington Park location from Airgas East, and Witty became the manager of this store. That same year Doc's oldest son, James "Jimmy" Oliver III, left Maryland National Capital Park & Planning and became a salesman for the MULES. A year later his brother, Brian Oliver retired from the St. Mary's County Sheriff's Department to become store manager of the Mechanicsville location. In 1997 Richard Stone passed away, and in 1999 brother-in-law Lewis "Scooter" Morgan retired from the Government to take charge of cylinder management for the MULES. Currently THREE MULES has thirteen employees, ten of whom are family. THREE MULES is an authorized distributor for many major welding manufacturers, such as ESAB, Hobart & Thermal Arc welders, OKI / Bering, ORS Nasco & Atlas Welding Industrial supply, Salor Beal Air Compressors, Uni-Hydro Ironworkers, Inweld Welding Alloys, Profax & Tweco Mig Guns and Walter & United Abrasives, to name a few. In their spare time, many of the MULES are working on a THREE MULES sponsored dirt track race car. |
